Meet the Artist
Kiarra Williams
an accomplished artist whose engagement with art began at the tender age of seven. Growing up in Lansdowne in a family of five girls, she was surrounded by a creatively nurturing environment, with artistically talented family members who inspired her passion for art. Her initial foray into drawing evolved at Pennwood High School, where she interned in the ceramic studio and discovered a profound love for ceramics, a medium she explored further at Hofstra University.
Kiarra pursued higher education at Hofstra University, where she honed her skills in ceramics and drawing and earned a master’s degree in art therapy. This unique combination of disciplines underscores her belief in the therapeutic power of art and its ability to facilitate personal expression and healing. Kiarra has always had a deep love for helping others and sought to combine this passion with her artistic pursuits, leading her to the field of art therapy.
During her senior year of college, Kiarra held an art gallery showcasing a variety of clay sculptures and functional pieces. She showcased art in a group exhibition at DreamCreative studios in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. She also presented a solo art showcase for one night at The Venue Event Space LLC, a local event space in Lansdowne.
Specializing in large-scale portraits, Kiarra's preferred mediums are soft pastels, charcoal, graphite, and mixed media. Her work vividly captures the multifaceted nature of the Black experience, using a blend of grayscale and vibrant colors to portray depth and emotion. Central to her art are themes of family, spirituality, and personal growth, reflecting her own experiences as a young Black woman. Additionally, she draws portraits of famous individuals with whom she feels a deep connection, further exploring the shared human experience.
Drawing inspiration from her familial heritage and personal journey, Kiarra's art aims to inspire others to share their stories and find strength in their experiences. She is particularly committed to raising awareness about mental health challenges within the Black community and exploring the complexities of familial relationships.
